Statistics show that in India, one in every five women is battling a mental health condition. The same statistics also reveal that one in every 10 men is battling mental health issues, but these are not given the priority they deserve.
In the mid-80s, I was introduced to the world of Formula 1 racing through the-then, India’s only sports magazine called The Sportstar. India was and is a one-sport, cricket crazy nation. It was natural for the media to cover everything about cricket. But if you were lucky, you would have one page on motorsports. And most often, it was after the championship.
Of the 30 years that I’ve been riding motorcycles, the last 5 years I’ve been riding a BMW GS R1200. Until this point, my riding experience was pretty much limited to streets and highways. I picked the GS because I wanted a motorcycle that was comfortable to tour across India. I wanted a motorcycle to cruise and surf over potholes and no-roads. As much as I loved the travel documentary, “Long Way Around” by the Hollywood actor, Ewan McGregor and his friend, Charley Boorman, the “GS bug” didn’t bite me until I started riding one.
